Guide to Best Times to Visit Gorillas

Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda is all year round. Therefore, all year round is best for gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda.  In both countries, you are in montane rain forests – that applies to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

Even when you think it is dry season, you can have the night or morning rains – that is why we tell our clients to bring a rain-jacket or poncho and water-proof boots.

Some people want to know when gorilla permits are discounted – it is April -May and November – during Uganda’s rainy season. It is only in April, May and November when Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) sell permits at US$800 from US$1500 but the cost of Rwanda Gorilla permits remain the same.

The Peak Seasons for gorilla tracking in Uganda and Rwanda are June-July-August and September and then December – January – February, however affordable gorilla tracking, the Best time for gorilla trekking just might be in April, May, November due to the discounted promotional permits in Uganda.

The rainy season in Uganda and Rwanda makes gorilla trekking much easier because, gorillas move to lower elevation since there is plenty food to be found during the rainy season and Gorilla treks have a tendency to be shorter in regards to time spent tracking them.
